Embracing the Digital Transformation is required for any organization to survive. Done successfully, it solves the challenge with scale and consistency, but has also introduced new challenges, especially for companies that sell Subject Matter Expertise as part of their core business.
Different approaches have been tested over the past decades, from truely central IT-/Data Teams, to individual Data professionals placed together with Subject Matter Experts and Business users in their part of the organization. The dominating approach at the moment is federated IT-/Data Teams that shall obtain and maintain a level of Business Logic relevant for the Digital solution they develop. Unfortunately, none of these setups works in Organizations where the Business Logic is complex, evolve fast and represents the main company assets.
Newly developed IT Solutions do very often not deliver as expected by Subject Matter Experts and Business Users. The main reason is miscommunication between Business and IT-/Data Teams, as part of the knowledge transfer of Business Logic, prior to development of the Digital Solutions. This is partly caused by Subject Matter Experts not being able to specify their requirements clearly, structured and unequivocally.
EI-Group was founded in 2017 to develop a scalable solution for the challenge many Subject Matter Experts and Business Users face with “uncontrolled” datafication and digitalization of their work processes and deliverables, with loss of insight and quality as a consequence.
The founders, Kelsy Brennan and Peter Scharling, have their backgrounds in Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, which gave name to the company Environmental Intelligence Group (EI-Group).
